Alpha v2024.10.3 - New Cannon!
A NEW CANNON APPEARS... THE GRAPESHOOTER!
As the mechanics of the tower defense begin to take shape, and the UI lets you do most things the cannons already can do (cough cough, still unable to change the cannon targeting algorithm), I figured it's time to use these mechanics and add a new cannon to help players deal with the later game waves, as well as close-up situations: THE SHOTGUN CANNON (a.k.a. Grapeshooter in reference to the real life cannon munition it uses.)
The Grapeshooter is a cannon who splits its damage between the number of pellets it has, and shoots multiple cannonballs at once in a spread-out manner, allowing the player to hit multiple ships at once, for potentially lower damage.
The player has the ability to decide how to evolve this cannon based on how they prioritize upgrades. If you go for pellet count, you will surely hit more things but do less damage per shot. If you go for spread, you will guarantee that more pellets hit the same thing. Should you go for wide coverage to support the other cannons, or have this be a destructive damage dealer, but only up close? Good question. Try it out and let me know which one is more effective!
FUTURE UPDATES
As I continue to focus on expanding the player arsenal, feel free to drop comments below suggesting new cannon types. Here are some ideas I already have loaded in my brain and ready to be tackled:
- FIREHOSE: Shoots a fire stream like a flamethrower / Shoots a firebomb or napalm or molotov. Expensive tower, Low impact damage, but with damage over time, and potentially fire spreads to nearby ships. The kind of tower that takes heavy investment to shine (kind of like the Grapeshooter), but once enough upgrades are enabled, it becomes a death machine.
- ROCKET LAUNCHER: Shoots a rocket upward, which locks onto target and pursues it. Kind of a slower, more expensive, more damaging, and more accurate cannon. I want it to be a real conundrum for the player to pick between this and the standard cannon.
